- OBJECTIVE
-
- The objective of Oilcap Pro is to keep the oil flowing for as
- long as possible by placing down pipe links to direct its flow.
-
-
- GAME PLAY / PLACING LINKS
-
- To begin a new game click on the New Game button at the bottom of
- the screen. When the game begins, the oil clock located in the
- upper left corner of the screen will count down the seconds before
- the oil will begin to flow out of the yellow starting grid. During
- this count down you can rotate the starting grid by clicking on it.
- You can only do this before the oil has started to flow.
-
- On the first few levels you will have 45 seconds before the oil
- flows out of the starting grid. As the levels get higher, there will
- be less time allotted before the oil starts to flow.
-
- On the left side of the game board, there are 4 grids containing
- pipe links. The top pipe link is the Active Link which is light
- blue. This link is the next to be placed onto the board. By
- clicking on it, the cursor will turn into the shape of the link
- and you can place it onto the board by clicking on any empty square.
-
- Your objective in placing down the links on the board is to try to
- create a sequential path for the oil to move through. Careful planning
- must be used because the link you're presently placing might not be
- the one you want, so you will have to think ahead in order to find
- the right spot. You can see what the future pipes will be by looking
- at the links below the Active Link. They will be gray in color.
-
-
- OIL FLOW
-
- Once the clock has counted down to "0", the oil will begin to move
- out of the starting yellow grid. You can continue to place down pipe
- links to stay ahead of the oil.
-
-
- SCORE NEEDED
- There is a Needed Window below the Oil Clock on the left side of the
- screen. This shows you the points you will have to acquire in order
- to go on to the next level. Your present score is always shown at
- the bottom of the game board. If you do not reach the score needed
- for that level, then the game will be over.
-
-
- REPLACING A MISPLACED LINK
-
- Once the oil has begun to flow, you can place a link on top of an
- existing link, but there will be a 5 second delay in which you will
- not be able to place new links. Only links that do not have oil
- already in them can be replaced. You can only replace a link once
- the oil is moving.
-
-
- THE TNT LINK
-
- Occasionally, a TNT link with a picture of dynamite on it will
- appear as one of the links to be placed onto the board. This link
- can be used to quickly remove any link on the game board without
- a 5 second delay penalty. This TNT link can only be used on links
- that do not contain any oil.
-
-
- FAST ADVANCE ARROW BUTTON
-
- Once the oil has started to flow through the pipe links there
- will be a rotating arrow button below the Active Link on the left
- side of the screen. This button will advance the pipes up by one,
- yet a penalty of 20 points for each use will be subtracted from
- your score.
-
-
- FAST OIL BUTTON
-
- When the Oil Clock has counted down to "0", it will be replaced
- with a blue Fast Oil Button. It will be placed in the upper left
- hand corner of the screen. If you have already placed all the
- links you can on the game board and do not want to wait for the
- oil to make it through to the end, then click this button to speed
- the oil through the remaining links.
-
-
- CROSS LINKS
-
- There are 7 different types of links that are used to direct the
- oil flow. The cross link "+" allows you to loop the oil through
- itself. Every time you can get the oil to cross itself, you
- will be given 25 bonus points. Extra points for over 4,8,12,16,20...
- crosses will be added to your score at the end of the level.
-
-
- OTHER SPECIAL GRIDS
-
- On different levels there will be several types of grids which can
- appear on the game board.
-
- Block Out Grid:
- This grid is marked with a red "X". It will move around the board
- every time you click on a new Active Link. You will not be able to
- place a link on top of this grid.
-
- Bonus Grids:
- These pink grids appear on the board on various levels. If you
- can get the oil to pass through them they give you 25 extra bonus
- points. They can be removed from the board, like any other grid,
- by placing a new grid on top of them.
-
- Double Starting Grids:
- On the higher levels there might be more then one starting grid
- placed onto the game board at the beginning of the game. You will
- not know which one the oil will appear out of until it starts to
- flow. The fake starting grid will remove itself from the board
- once the oil starts to move.
-
- Oil Hole Grids:
- These green grids are called Oil Holes. They appear in pairs
- on the game board. If oil flows into one of these holes, it
- will emerge from the other Hole Grid located somewhere else on
- the game board. The oil will continue to flow in the same
- direction as when it entered the first Hole Grid. Every time
- you can get the oil to flow into one of these holes, 40 points
- will be added to your score.
-
- Oil Rig Grid:
- These red double grids have a picture of an oil rig on them.
- If one of these is on the board at the start of the level,
- then you must end the oil into this grid or the game will be
- over no matter how many points you have scored for that level.
- In order to go on to the next level, you must acquire the Needed
- Points and also end the oil into this grid. The program will
- remind you of this when an Oil Rig is present on the game board.
- If you are successful in getting the oil into the Oil Rig,
- 75 points will be added to your score.
-
- Rotating Grids:
- These grids appear on the game board at the higher levels. They
- cannot be removed by placing links on top of them. When the oil
- moves through the pipe links, these grids will rotate once for
- each grid the oil reaches. You must plan ahead to make sure that
- the grid will rotate in the right direction when the oil reaches
- it. A bonus of 50 points will be added to your score if you can
- successfully maneuver the oil through these grids.
-
-
-
- SCORING
-
- As the oil moves through the pipe links you will acquire points.
- Keeping the oil moving through the pipe links increases your
- score. Extra points are given for looping the oil through itself
- by using the cross links.
-
- The level will be over when the oil reaches a dead end. All
- unused pipe links will be removed from the board. 6 points
- will be deducted from your score for each unused link. Next the
- program will determine how many oil loops were achieved. 25 bonus
- points will be awarded for each successful loop.
-
- If your final point total is higher then the Score Needed, then
- you will go on to the next level of play.
-
- BONUS ROUNDS
-
- For every 5000 points earned, there will be a special bonus
- round awarded. During this bonus round you will not need a certain
- point total to continue. All unused links on the game board at
- the end of the round will not count against you.
-
